Inquire

This is a very important question. High-voltage bushings are valuable and precise power equipment components, and their internal insulation (whether OIP or RIP) is highly sensitive to storage conditions. Incorrect storage is a primary cause of bushing damage or performance degradation.

1. Core Storage Principles

Keep Dry: Preventing insulation materials from absorbing moisture is the top priority. Humidity drastically reduces dielectric strength and can initiate partial discharge.Keep Stable: Avoid severe temperature fluctuations and prevent mechanical stress (e.g., tilting, vibration, impact).

Keep Clean and Intact: Protect the porcelain shell surface and sealing systems from contamination and physical damage.

2. Storage Environment Requirements

Environmental Factor

Requirement

Reason

Ambient Humidity

Relative Humidity ≤ 60%

Prevents from moisture, maintaining high dielectric strength.

Ambient Temperature

-25°C ~ +40°C

Temperature swings can cause internal condensation (especially in OIP bushings) and mechanical stress.

Storage Location

 Indoor, dry, well-ventilated warehouse

Avoids direct exposure to sunlight, rain, snow, and wind-blown dust.

Cleanliness

 Dust-free, free of corrosive gases/chemicals

Protects porcelain glaze and metal parts, preventing flashover and corrosion.

Mechanical Environment

Stable, no severe vibration, away from heavy traffic

Prevents porcelain breakage, internal structure loosening, or seal damage.

3. Storage Methods & Practices

① Packaging & Covering

Keep Original Packaging

End Caps: prevent moisture and dust ingress.

Desiccant: Check and replace it promptly.

PE Film: prevent the dust accumulation.

 ② Placement & Orientation

Preferred Orientation: Store verticallyThis is the most recommended method.

For OIP Bushings: Ensures the oil level gauge is visible for regular checks.

Support Method: Use a support stand or pallet to secure it by the flange. Never support the bushing by the porcelain sheds.

Alternative Orientation: If space is limited, horizontal storage is possible, but strict rules must be followed:

Support Points: Must be supported at strong points like the flange, never directly on the porcelain sheds.

Stability: Ensure it is placed on a stable, level surface to avoid sliding.

③ Regular Inspection & Maintenance (Crucial!)

Check Seals: Confirm all end caps and sealing covers are intact and tight.

Check Appearance: Inspect the porcelain shell for cracks, chips, or glaze damage.

Check for Corrosion: Look for rust on metal flanges, fasteners, etc.

Check Oil Level (OIP Bushings only): For vertically stored OIP bushings, regularly observe if the oil level is within the normal range and check for signs of leakage.

Check Desiccant: Replace silica gel desiccant regularly.

 ④ Prohibited Actions

DO NOT store outdoors unprotected.

DO NOT roll or drag the bushing directly on the ground.

DO NOT store near sources of vibration (e.g., large machinery, frequent traffic).

By adhering to this systematic storage guide, you can maximize the performance and reliability of high-voltage bushings prior to installation, avoiding significant economic losses and project delays caused by improper storage.

PS: In case of storage more than 2 years , metal cover is needed .
